Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thoughts on Raleigh Militis Aluminum bikes?

I saw today that a local bike shop is selling used/demo versions of the Raleigh Militis in aluminum guise.

Has anyone been able to compare these Raleighs with the premium aluminum models of other brands e.g. Felt F series or Cannondale CAAD?

I have a 2011 Felt F75 and love the low weight (<17lbs in 105 build sans pedals) and ride.

I'm wondering how the aluminum Militis models compare.

I've ridden the Raleigh Revenio and find that the frame itself is heavy (swapped to light weight wheels during testing). Made me think of department store frames...

You must be in the UK, not USA. The aluminum Militis doesn't exist in the states, so I can't help despite my work with Raleighs.

Every frame from UK Raleigh is actually not the same as the US Raleigh, even the carbon Militis & Revino. It's just the same mold, but not layup.

Apparently, they do, hence the question.

At least the 2014 models are sold here in California and I'm interested to see if anyone with other Alu race bikes have tried them out.

The 2015 Felt F75 looks like a very good value.

The best F75 is the one I already have: the 2011. After that year, F75 come with aluminum steerers. Which add weight and are no fun. Yes, I'm a ww.

I know because I've owned a 2012 F75, a 2014 Z85 and a 2011 F95 all of which have aluminum steerer tubes. Not to mention the Revenio which I just returned to the LBS today.

I guess no one has an answer to my question about the Militis aluminum frame.

I've some store credit because of the Revenio return. Will wait for the 2015 Specialized models to hit and then maybe I'll get an overpriced Allez Comp or something. The LBS doesn't sell Cannondale otherwise I'd be on that right away.

I didn't realize a full carbon fork was a requirement. From what little I was able to google, I think the 2015 Militis Comp and Elite both have AL steerers (but most of the info I found was on UK sites).
