Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is my philosophy - play it safe. When its 2 tons vs 220 lbs, I'm going to give in to the bigger guy. It doesn't matter if I'm in the right . . . I could wind up dead right.

Oh, it's not quite that way. Outside of my neighborhood gets me out of town onto rural routes with 55mph speed limits, good sight lines and low traffic. No need to drive to ride.

The guy had plenty of room and time to pass, but got pissed. Drivers get pissed enough at cyclists as it is, so yeah, no point in poking the tiger.

There is a big difference between taking the lane on a two lane road and on a four lane road or even a three lane road with a middle passing/turning lane. When following cars have the ability to move over and pass at will, discouraging them from occupying the lane along with you is the right thing to do.

Truly. This is a person intentionally stoking the ire of drivers already angry at cyclists. She, rather than making it safer, is making it more dangerous for all. There are other options. On every video posted she has an enormous (by Indiana standards), shoulder that I would love to have the option of riding on.

A clean shoulder is better than taking the lane any day.

Clean is the operative word there, too often loads of debris but still better than an irate cager in a monster truck.

Fact. If I can get a three foot shoulder in Indiana I feel blessed. Fortunately, the drivers around here are pretty good with cyclists.

Part of the number series is an old street address that I had when I was in the Navy. I added some more numbers in a sequence my feeble mind could remember.

Great rehearsal tonight. Gig Sunday. 3 dates coming up in November. Not much else but we're working on it.

We sound better every time we play. Our repertoire isn't so mainstream, and that doesn't help us get gigs, but when we sound good, we sound REALLY good. I have to respect my ears and judgement more than these bar owners, some of whom are rather clueless about music, and really have a different agenda than me. I'm just trying to have fun playing music. I could give a flying fark about how many people we draw into the bar. I'll be quite happy if we can average 2+ gigs monthly. It's keeping me out there and helping me improve as a musician, and that's really all I care about.

It has been, as far as cycling and attitude towards cyclists, the best state I have cycled in.

That's why I usually say "Long story shorter". Because, clearly, I could have started with "I was born".

Yeah. I wasn't sure when they'd changed the American stuff but I did know they'd changed the ingredients and now included the stuff that would cause me to go into anaphylaxis.
