Hydrogen peroxide is the worst thing you can use, it is very toxic to the cells recruited to heal the wound and should not be used. Just saline or warm water is fine. As far as antibiotic ointment, it actually creates a moist environment by virtue of the layer of petroleum on the wound. The type of dressings I use are very expensive and for routine scrapes or road rash, are unnecessary. Look for a thin foam dressing with a transparent film over it, they can be left in place for several days before needing to be changed. You are right to use the antibiotic only if signs of infection present, using it to prevent infections is not indicated, using it for infections is.

Angry legs for me is when my training partner has a bad day at work and vents by pedaling ridiculously hard while at the same time telling me why his day was bad. My side of the conversation is usually limited to grunts and wheezes.

Latest news site chat fun. CNN had a story on Amal Clooney taking George Clooney's last name that has some very upset.
For some reason introducing a discussion about a story on Entertainment Tonight that said she had really nice legs caused much consternation. She does have really nice legs. I bet she rides or runs.

@stoney, re: your post on keeping wounds moist, aren't some modern dressings being developed that selectively retain moisture while letting air pass freely? I understand what you said about oxygen being supplied to the healing wound by the blood flow. My understanding is these newer films would supplement that without letting the wound dry out. Am I remembering correctly? I had some passing involvement with this sort of thing in my plastics development work for medical devices.

Beg to differ, the area that's not the anus and not the scrotum but between the two is the taint. In the woman, replace the scrotum with it's embryological equivalent female structure, which is, as you all know, the labia.

I stand corrected. I had never heard it used in reference to male anatomy. Perhaps just the degenerates I grew up with.

Ride Report
Distance: 46.7 miles
Time: 2: 50: 36
Stoppage time: 0:00 (excluding stop lights, signs)
Temperature: 61F
Humidity: 52%
0.00 litres/kilograms of substance consumed. I probably could have gone for a drink (poor pre-hydration), but I thought it might make me cold. I'd rather be a bit thirsty than cold.
Ride Objective Checklist
Avoid getting run over ✔
Don't crash ✔
Mileage for weekly quota ✔
No flat tyres ✔
No hypothermia ✔
Ride fast X
The Good
--Came around a curve on a hill climb and saw three deer at the edge of the road! I see deer out in the wild west every once in a while, but not on the road. Then a mile later another one with antlers bounded in front of me! A free wilderness safari in Loudon County
Other animals spotted: two goats, a donkey, cows, horses, and dogs (including a big slow one that tried to chase me).
--Five miles of road has been repaved since my last ride there. Sweet.
--Much more surprisingly, there's a fancy new roundabout, with lights! coasting would be jealous.
--I revisited a road I haven't ridden in probably three years. I'm so adventuresome.
The Bad
When you can't turn your head enough to see behind you, and have to go across to a left turn lane, it's a problem.
The Ugly
To my dismay, I discovered that this formerly open meadow now looks like a strip mine, complete with 20+ earth movers and other heavy machinery. Only it's not going to be a strip mine (I almost wish it was). It's going to be more exurb housing for road-clogging SUV drivers.
The one good thing about the Great Recession was that it put an end to this kind of thing for several years. Now it's coming back. Joy.
File photo of today's destination--Melton Hill Dam
The End.
