Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Compact D.A. 9000 drivetrain (11-25, 11 speed rear)

My new Zipps will work with this bike, they are the new 11 speed hub. Those new Zipps are also backwards compatible with 10 speed using a simple spacer (right now Zipps are on my 10 speed Foil).
Ow, my eyes!

Fredly rationalizations.

Nope you did not miss anything and yes, if he needed them to start with then he needs them now. Dietary restrictions can reduce cholesterol at most 20% The remainder is genetic and is reduced only by drugs.

That's not what folks want to hear even though it is absolutely true. If you are going to make people that unhappy, you might as well have just been a lawyer.

My family on my mother's side has a history of high cholesterol. Fifteen years ago I had cholesterol of 210 and the doc put me on Lipitor. I took it for a few years and stopped. Probably a mistake. Move ahead in time. I've been eating better foods, more fresh fruits and vegetables, better balance in my diet and exercise, lots of miles on a Giant.

Blood work a month ago revealed a cholesterol level of 180 and HDL and LDL within range.

I don't know, maybe the doctor does.

Don't forget the oat bran. That is good for a couple % reduction at least. Just watch out no one smokes near you. It wouldn't do for you to asplode. Or is it assplode?

A long time ago, my total triglycerides were, quite literally, off the charts. It was high enough that my MD couldn't get direct HDL and LDL measurements. I got put on Zocor, then Lopid to manage the conditions. 70 pounds and thousands of miles later, I've been off those drugs for years and my levels are excellent. YMMV.

OTOH, I also agree with pcad about the basic uselessness of shrinks. Worst money my insurance company ever spent.

Forgive me for ever being the scientist, but that sure sounds like a bit less than 15% to me. I bet with some beetroot, beans, and oat bran you could knock off the remaining 5% that @stoney talked about.

Yes, I probably could knock down a few more percent with some other dietary changes. I am fortunate, my wife is careful about the food she buys and prepares for our family. She has the luxury of shopping at Whole Paycheck and some other same type stores. We don't have a bunch of candy, cookies, cakes, pies and ices cream in the house. We don't have pop in the house and we don't have other junk snacks such as potato chips, fritos and such. We aren't perfect, but we try.

...if sheer enthusiasm and true belief can work to reduce cholesterol levels, you're golden. But I do worry about you and your stress levels.

Nothing wrong with thinking your spouse is attractive, but posting scantily-clothed pictures of him/her on a forum is a step beyond that, especially for someone over 30.

High school English teachers are great. Mine still remembers me.

One time in class we stood on our desks as in Dead Poet's Society. Very original, I know.
