Be safe.
There are a lot of things that can get you (wildlife, cars, pedestrians, other cyclist,etc). Be aware of your surroundings. You safety comes first.

decide what you want to accomplish riding, having fun, making friends, getting fit, competing etc. Everything else you do will flow naturally from that decision and you can put all the advice into context.

Read/learn about bike fit (not simply frame size) and pedaling technique. Those two factors will be the largest determinant of how much you enjoy being on a bike.
