Any good aluminum frames that are closer to what an Allez E5 cost 3 years ago?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Allez frames are $975 now. No thanks. I'm wanting to build up a beater potential race bike with microshift and some cheaper handbuilt wheels. What options are their for budget minded AL frames?

So far I'm aware of the

Just as an owner of an Xperience, it is a brutally stiff frame. Buyer beware.

Also, how tall are you? RA cycles has a Felt F1R 60cm scandium / al frame for $600. That is deal of the century, in my opinion. It is my size, but I have sufficient aluminum in my diet.

I ride 25's at 85-90psi anyway and that helps most things. My DA'd tarmac would still be my main bike.

On the Xperience, I ride 25's on A23 wide rims at 95-100 psi. That change let me survive 50 mile rides versus the 25 mile previous barrier. I have talked to several other BF Xperience owners, and they have had similar experiences. Everyone of them is using wide rims or tubulars. I just bought a carbon seat post to see if that helps. I could not envision a 100 mile ride on the Cinelli, and I am a guy who routinely rides 100-150 miles on other aluminum frames.

What version do you have? The newer one is supposed to be better than the older version that was usually made in orange.

Orange is faster. That is my caveat, I have the Xperience, you are looking at an Experience, and I have heard the same thing from marketing, but have talked to no actual Experience owners.

wanna buy a used frame? I'm considering dropping my Blue Rc4Al for a winter build project (something like a Soma Smoothie or Mr Pink, but I digress). It's a crit bike all the way, yet "comfy" enough that I've done more than a fair share of centuries...

--warning, old pic, but the frame is the same...
