Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

oy! i crashed

Oh man this sucks I crashed again in the same exact way I did six months ago! I was riding along, and I rode over this big branch, and I looked down to make sure my tire was alright, and bam! I hit a parked car. Well not exactly the same, last time i looked down because my chain came undone. Fortunately, I'm OK, and I think the bike is pretty much alright...the wheel hit the car and that's about it.

BUT there is a bit of damage to the bike obviously, and I'm gonna take it in this weekend to have it fixed up (I'm still under free protection at the lbs i bought it at. Sooooo...given my situation what damage should I be looking for?

I know the wheels will need to be trued, and the front brakes is a bit messed up (its all sqeaky now, maybe I can use this as an opportuinty to get some 105 brakes, as opposed to the cheap cannondales that came stock). Also, the little plastic plate on the shifter/brake that says shimano broke off, and the computer is scratched, which i can't do anything about, but oh well. What else should I look for????

Thanks so much, sam.

wow how hard did you hit it?
no frame or fork damage eh?
if the bike fell on the right side you might have to realign the rear derailleur.

I'd say look for parked cars.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. If it makes you feel any better, I've been down hard a couple of times.

I'd love to ride you for this one, but after getting hit by a car door on my three-week old Moots, I got nutt'n to say

The LBS wrenches should know exactly what to look for. Straight frame, straight components, cracked welds, steerer, fork, bars.

Some say, if you had carbon-fiber components (fork/bars) and you hit hard, be safe and replace 'em.

Hope you're ok. Sometimes our worst enemies out there are ourselves

well I don't know about replacing your carbon parts because of an accident, but if you were wearing a helmet and it hit the ground it's integrity was probably been compromised so you should replace it.

As a verterian of the wars against cars (i.e. hit twice) I can say you are lucky. Have the bike completly checked out, any number of things could have happened...

Also if you are interested I have a set of 105 brake calipeurs (in silver) that I will part with for a few dollars, pm me if you are interested (like new about 500 miles on them, replaced by DA), can't give them away but will send them off really cheep.

Sorry if I used the thread to promote something, I am glad you are alright, I hate distroying stuff like that. Glad to hear that you are fine also.

I can identify: recently I came around a curve at speed with my head down riding my new Torelli & looked up just in time to see a U-Haul truck parked in the bike lane. I just missed running square into it & rode the whole length rubbing my right arm & shoulder against it. Got a dirty jersey & a good lesson though, even on the most familiar road I have to keep alert! Hope the bike is ok & maybe we should rig up a forward looking mirror by the stem? Don
