Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually the D-fuse post might be the best reason for an ISP - it's supposedly got the most compliance because of it's D shaped tube and the way the carbon has been layered - allowing it to rock back/forth. I can imagine this to be quite true just by looking at the pics - other ISP with Kamm designs or come in a thicker form will be a much tougher ride with little compliance.

Well that's my justification anyway for the Defy 2015 SL - i thought it was a decent deal to pay a bit more to get carbon wheels, carbon stems and carbon handlebar.

Congratulations on your purchase.

IMO, there is no need to justify the purchase of a bike other than you like it. The first time I rode a SL, I knew I had to have one. Even though the frame was at max height and I could hardly pedal, the feel and response was better than other bikes I had ridden. Justification enough for me.

Enjoy the miles.

Congrats on the bike. I think ISPs look very very sexy! I really couldn't think a better riding bike than my TCR SL ISP.

Just look at that smooooth line

Reason enough to have one.

Anything not tightened properly can cause problems.

Still seems to me the "cons" of isp vastly outweigh the "pros"

The only "real" con for me is the resale. To be honest it isn't that big a deal either because it still has a LOT of seat post and 4cm can be added with spacers if anybody were to need more. IF the person needed another 15cm on the seatpost then I'd think they should be riding a 60cm frame not a 56. Or maybe if you were going to grow forever.

Pros for me? Looks, comfort, stiffness, aerodynamics and not having to align the nose every time I have to move it.

Yes, the science is settled. They have at least an 80% chance of causing regret.

Just not among people that own them.

Good one. It's funny how the people who regret it never get to own one.

lsberrios1 - wow - that is one sexy looking bike.

Got the Defy SL 1 today!!!! - my fears have been resolved (i had a few sleepless nights)!!! The guy at the LBS was the shop manager and he was super great - i wouldn't have pulled the trigger if it was someone else. I got measured twice to confirm and the initial height proposed was too high (no problems as that was the intention anyway) - my legs were straight at lowest bottom - we cut again and he examined how i cycled - we agreed to go down a bit - cut again - cycled again - we both think we're very close - we agreed to take off 1 cm. Bingo - it was about 1cm higher than my older bike (he said most people rode lower than necessary). It felt good.

So i now have a great looking ISP bike.

The secret is to getting someone with experience, maturity and the patience to genuinely want you to have a good fit to the bike. If i have to I won't hesitate to buy another ISP bike.

ok, unless you personally test a regular post vs an ISP with your own body in a tunnel there's no data points to indicate one is more aero than another.

Puhleeez just look at it. Everybody knows tear shape stuff is the most aero. If not aero bikes would still be using columbus slx tubing.

Congrats on the new bike! Looks great, hope the ride is too.

Please make sure to revive this thread if you ever do end up regretting the ISP. LOL

WOW!!! only 2 years, 1 month and 7 days after the question asking how much it weighed. Now that's some efficiently working memory bank storage system. BTW, still enjoying my SL.
