Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Abici?

Hi all, I recently came across an Abici XLR8R from 2003/2004? For 300 bucks. I was thinking of getting it to commute in the short term (it's currently set up as a single speed). But I do not know much about this bike. I don't think Abici exists anymore and haven't been able to find much information about this bike. Can anyone tell me more about it?

Looks like a single speed judging by the chain and lack of front derailleur? Never heard of it. For $300 you could do better (used) or save a few more bucks and get a real bike.

Well I found out more about it.

This is actually a very nice bicycle. It's an italian company and according to bikepedia the bike msrp'd for 2,250 when it came out. The owner sold the dura ace components so it is currently set up as a single speed which I do not like but it does have a carbon fiber fork, carbon fiber ritchey bars, Neuvation R28 SL3 wheels and a bontranger stem. The upgrades on the bike seems to be worth more than 300 alone.

Here is the bikepedia for this bike: https://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...=XLR8R+Ultegra
It appears that abici was a fairly small italian company, but a well respected one.

It might be a pretty decent project if you can get some used components for it. Just make sure it fits!

Nice find. Whoever pulled off a Dura Ace group and turned it into a single speed fixey thingy needs to be banned from owning another bicycle.
