Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking at maybe buying this off craigslist. The guy isn't in town and didn't know the model off the top of his head. Any ideas? What are your thoughts on a road bike beginner?

Looks like a 2004 Trek 5200. Great bike but at 10 years old is over priced, in my opinion.

^I agree on the overprice. Another point I'd like to bring up: That's a big frame. Sure it's your size?

Thanks for the info guys! I'll probably pass on it. It may be. He said it fits him at 6' and I'm 6'1. I'm probably going to new and get sized, etc for the best bike. Looking at the Cannondale CAAD 8 105 5. Do you guys have any thoughts on it? Any other suggestions?

Great beginner bike. 105 group is the sweet spot for shimano. caad10 is worth the extra if you can afford it but it's a bit more aggressive then caad8. Might also see if they have deals on any previous year models. I saw 2014 caad10 105 going for $1175 by me recently

Just for reference, I have a 2006 version of that same bike in a 56 cm, and it fits me fine. I was between a 54 and 56, and I am 5' 11". I am not sure you would like the 60 cm frame. I think that's about a $500 bike or so. Maybe a bit more for a near perfect one.
