Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How do you keep um clean? Hub Porn

Besides for buying new wheels all the time. How do you keep your hubs clean? Front is no so bad- but the rear is a pain in my rearality. They are a daily ritual that I try and stay up on as well as the other biggies like chain, cogs, chain rings, break pads so forth. Got a method to your madness? Please share.

Step 1: Remove the tire and rim strip
Step 2: Carefully losen and remove all spokes
Step 3: apply liberal amounts of chrome polish to hub with elbow grease
Step 4: reverse steps 1-3.

You now have a clean hub -- assuming you didn't want to clean the inside too.

No need to thank me.

If it's not filthy, wet wipes are good. I'm a weirdo, I look at hubs before most other parts of the bike.

(Hence: Hubs | the setback post)

Seriously? I have big mitts, proportionately short fingers and 32 spokes and I can still manage to clean the hubs with a cloth or paper towel with cleaner on it, which is something I do maybe four times/year.

Ja, ich denke, das ist am besten.

A bit of leather from the Tandy shop is pretty cheep and far less time consuming.

Thank you for the leather idea, but to be truthful, I had to use a language converter on the German

Dampen an old tube sock in simple green or whatever cleaner you prefer and attack the hub from various angles. It's much like a shoeshine motion, back and forth, but more up and down under the hub. The sock should be long and stretchy enough to hold and work with your hands outside of the spokes. Then spin the wheel a little and repeat until you have hit the hub all the way around. This also gets your spokes pretty clean at the same time.

When you order your next wheelset, specify the hub painted with truck bed liner, then you won't worry about it?

I ride a lot on gravel/dirt roads, so even a ride a day after rain gets mud on the bike. I clean the mud off now and then. ie: don't sweat it!

Go to the auto parts store and get some wheel/tire cleaner. Spray on and rinse.
