Old Canondale: Worth the money?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stay away from the blue bike. Looks like a replaced fork, possible wreck. I'd pass.
The yellow bike is intriguing. I'd see if I could get it for less because of the bar end shifters. But that looks like a CAAD frame and does have a carbon fork and worth putting a little money into it if you can pick it up for, say, $200. If you really like it and it fits you well, pay the $250 but expect to put a few $$ into it. That's a MTB stem circa mid 90's. I'll bet the owner is older with back or neck problems so they lifted the bars so they could ride the bike. Ask if they have the original stem, maybe they still have it. The saddle is a nice one but it's wider than average. Good luck.
One more comment about the yellow bike. I'll bet that is one REALLY light bike. The one's I had were.

You can buy a brand new aluminum frame that is better than a 1998 C'dale for $250 or less, and it will be sized to a fit a 1 1/8" threadless headset. Time marches on.

Nashbar has a number of aluminum frames under $250. They're not Cdale frames. My point is that a generic Aluminum frame, built to modern specs, is going to be as good or better than a 1990's Cdale frame, certainly moreso than a used 1990's Cdale frame that has been ridden hard and put away wet.

At least they don't rust !

I'd love to sell my old frames for $250

Very true. I see your point.

My 1999 R1000D has DT adapter stops on it.... Came with Ultegra.

You're a shrewd buyer. Give yourself a pat on the quads.
