Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where do you shop online for discount stuff?

I Had been looking for shoes for a while and on the trisports.com website I found shimano 170s for $40. Was a bit skeptical but went for it. Had them in 3 days. Seems like most of their stuff is pretty average in price but they do have some good clearance items and from my limited experience good service ($12 for shipping and they sent it two day). Usually when I'm online I'm perusing chain reaction cycles or nashbar.com. Where else do y'all go for discount gear?

I use Nashbar, Competitive Cyclist/Backcountry, PricePoint, and eBay usually. There are a lot of other online retailers though. Sometimes I'll do a Google search for a specific item and look under the "shopping" results.

Those and universal, westernbikeworks, niagara, biketiresdirect, cambria, danscomp.

Never done the Brit bikeshop thing but they do have some killer deals on some things.

Mostly Nashbar and ebay. Performance Bicycle is local for me, so I don't need to shop them online.

I usually shop Performance Online, then pickup in store.

Same with universal, biketiresdirect and westernbikeworks.

Chainreaction cycle has the best deals for me. Even with shipping from the UK to Canada, it`s cheap and the prices are usually 30-40% lower than my local shop.

+1 for Chain Reaction! Does take about 2 weeks for stuff to arrive. Just got an order from them including a saddle, 105 5700 brake set and a 10 spd cassette.

Amazon, Nashbar

Also forgot Velo Mine - IMHO, the best place for wheel sets, especially for 126mm spaced rear wheels for older steel bikes.

Shop everywhere, places I've bought something. Bikewagon, Backcountry, Ebay, PerformanceBike, MerlinCycles, Nashbar, artscyclery and probikekit.

All of them were the same to me, except probikekit, they were the slowest processing and shipping. Favorite places are MerlinCycles and BackCountry.

#1 rule for me is now, don't support my LBS for accessories and parts or service. Better products for less online, F them if they don't want to adapt to the changes in how people shop.

It's good to be friends with a custom frame builder.

I have nothing against bike shops, except I have to drive 70 miles round trip to the closest one.

I don't mind supporting the LBS, but if they don't have, say, gloves in my size? A week to get them, then I have to go in and pick them up? Yeah, no. Amazon Prime, two day shipping.

From Canada, I love chainreaction. I'll aggregate to get free shipping, and standard parcelforce shipping offers tracking. I also use JensonUSA and MEC. Jenson also upfronts HST so there are no surprises when the parcel arrives. MEC has a decent line of outdoor gear, not all specific to cycling. I'm off ProBikeKit. Worst, non-trackable shipping.

Performance Bike, REI and Sports Basement are local and really want to purchase clothing locally. I'll buy accessories at Amazon and sometimes on ebay.

Have you ever been hit with customs charges when importing into Canada from chain reaction?
