How long until road bikes go to a 135mm or wider rear spacing?

We need more room for extra gears, disc brakes, less dish, etc....

I'm thinking 140mm would be a good evolutionary step.

That would be good for about a 14 speed cassette. Let's do it now.

Why stop at 140? 142 thru-axle is the place to be in mountain bikes!

How about we go off the deep end and opt for 160? Plan a bit of obsolescence, and sell more bikes.

Ideally, we could get there in about 4 incremental steps: 135mm, 140 or 142mm, something in the low 150s, and finally 160mm.
