Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scott CR1 frames - 2014 CR1 vs. 2013 CR1 comp versus CR1 Elite

I just got a crazy deal on a new (2014) CR1 10 with 10 speed Ultegra shifters, but I'm looking for ways to get the weight down. When I look at the advertised weights of previous model year CR1s (Elite/Comp) I see weights in the 17 lb range, even 16.1 for the Elite. I know that the previous frames used carbon dropouts in the forks, and also a different type of carbon fiber I think. My question is, does anyone know the difference in the frame-only weight between the CR1 carbon and the HMF carbon frame models?

My 58cm frame weighs about 18.5 lbs with Speedplay pedals, everything else is stock (R565 compact cranks, pressfit BB, Tiagra FD and cassette, Shimano R11 wheels, non-series Shimano brakes, Syncros house brand stem, carbon seatpost, stock saddle). I'm trying to figure out how much weight I might realistically get out of this bike - would love to see it dip below 17lbs.

To get down to 17lbs. you obviously need to loose 1.5lbs which equals 680.39 grams, the biggest weight reduction would be the wheels the rs11's weigh 1848 grams so upgrading to a set of Dura Ace C24's weighing 1364 grams would shave 484 grams or 1lb 1oz and leave you right at 200 grams to shave to get you down to 17lbs. Only other area to drop a bunch of weight is the saddle and seatpost, most saddles come in around 200 grams and seatposts (even carbon) average 220 grams but a Selle Italia slr kit carbino or Fizik Arione 00 are aroun 130 grams and a thomson masterpiece seatpost runs 160 grams so there's another 130 grams or 1/4lb. Other than that you'd have to start changing out the crank, handlebar, cassette, chain, brakes, etc... It can be done but at what cost?

Thanks for the advice! I'm thinking the R11s must be heavier than that though. I weighed my front wheel yesterday (with tire and tube) and it came in at 1250grams. I can move something from another bike. I have a set of Bontrager race lites that are 2500 grams with tires and tubes. Thinking that might save 300 grams? Hadn't really considered saddle weight, thanks.
