Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My success story

Was featured this holiday week on Livestrong's blog. Many of you know my story, but since cycling was a big part of it, I'm posting the whole thing here. Or the link to it anyway.

Good for you! It's all too easy to not challenge your obstacles and let your world shrink about you. Well done.

Great work.

But you're still too fat for this sport.

Keep up the good work. If you've already done 100k then you are well on the way for that 100-miler, should be a piece of cake for you. You've already got the right attitude to do it.

Thank you everyone. It's still so hard to believe and part of the reason I share my story is to remind me how far I've come. Sometimes in my desire to do more and get better, I forget that I've climbed a pretty big mountain just to get here. The encouragement keeps me going too. I'm not done yet, either. I want to get trimmer and stronger for no other reason than I want to do it for me. At this point, I feel as if I've committed to a whole new lifestyle, adopting it as my own. And thank goodness for my bicycling. I stlll remember what it was like to be afraid to shift from my big ring to my small ring or to climb certain hills or even go down hill without pumping my brakes. Not anymore, haha. Not anymore.
