Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For me, generally, after I take a Shimano chain off a bike, it ain't going back on.

I feel your pain. The longer the ride, the more it feels like it.

I'm thinking maybe 2016. I like short and fast rides, not so much long, sustained climbing. Maybe I'll come around after doing some of his training rides with him. He has completed it 3 or 4 times now.

Are you doing Kevin's Finish the Ride on Sunday?
I'm not even thinking of next year. MAYBE 2016. I'll train closer to that day. I'm thinking I'll go ride up and down Glendora Mountain Road all day several times before the actual ride. Should be a reasonable facsimile, less the beautiful scenery. And it's an attempt on all 5, or nothin. I want to sign the poster and buy the jersey.

I wish I could do the Finish the Ride, but I'm committed to run sound for a Christmas program. It has been so long since I've been on the bike that I think the titanium is starting to rust!

This past summer, I was working with my three daughters (15, 12 and 11) on leading out a sprint and sprinting. While they weren't faster than me on the sprint, they wore me out over the long haul.

Consider training up at Mt Pinos and Mt Abel in Frazier Park instead. Awesome climbs, very few cars on the road, an easier drive up there and higher altitude, from 6000-8500 ft. Plus you can see the house from the Waltons TV series if you go up there, it's in Lockwood Valley. And Mikes Pizza for after your ride.

Can you operate a touch screen with these (as in Garmin)? My full fingered gloves somehow allow this but they're made of a thick enough material that I can't distinguish my Di2 shifters very well.

I guess I could maybe get something el cheapo and cut a hole in the finger tip for Garmin purposes, if that doesn't make the gloves fall apart.

Was 55* here for my run and that was a bit chillier than I would have liked, though it was ok with Under Armour after a few miles.

Anybody want my old Minoura truing stand for the price of postage? A little beat up, but it works fine on 130mm OLD road wheels and smaller. Can't say right now what the shipping would cost. Something less than $20 I would guess but it is all steel, so it does weigh a bit.

No, top dropouts are for front, bottom for rear. They both can expand or conract to accept slightly wider or narrower than intended OLDs. I think it was originally 100 and 126mm. I use it always on 100 and 130 wheel sets. I did just stretch it for a 135 mm MTB wheel last week and it was fine. Any diameter wheel up to 29" should be fine.
