Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What ride video editing software do you recommend?

I just got a Garmin VIRB Basic camera. The editing software that comes with it (VIRB Edit) is pretty slick on the surface. You can overlay a GPS file on the video to show stats of the ride in the video. The problem is the software will only export a 4GB file on Windows 7.

Does anyone know of another video editing software that does the same function, but allows for bigger files in Windows 7? Maybe even allows the sync'ing of a front and rear facing camera with GPS data?

Thanks in advance.

Is your Windows 32 bit? or maybe the software? I don't know anything about the software. However my Contours save in 3.67 GB files and I have to import a couple/few for longer rides. I haven't had an export larger than about 1.1 GB (15 minutes?). I have both 32 bit and 64 bit Macs, and for whatever reason my 64bit iMovie doesn't see the Contour files. Therefore I use the 32bit Mac, with its earlier versions of everything, and that's the 32 bit machine. I use iMovie and have only used Windows Movie Maker on XP so I don't have an answer for your software question.

There is one guy on BF that has some multi-camera clips in the racing video section. Here's his last one:

You should ask him, he does Windows based stuff I think, and he obviously has a lot of data/etc.

Jarrett2, I asked the same question, but concerning video data overlay. Curious what everyone is using. I was a Dashware user but it doesn't handle Multi-cam setups easily, so I also use Adobe Premiere. Its just too cumbersome to do all your editing in two applications. With Dashware no where in sight, I am looking for new software also.

Tried Contour's software, and Sony PlayMemories, but both suck for anything but the simplest videos.

All this means is no more support for Dashware. Essentially they killed it without saying as much. If they want it to continue about the only way that would happen is to release the source code and let it go to the Open Source community. They work for GoPro now, but I doubt GoPro wants to support all the things Dashware did.

Is the software multi-platform? Your ride video editing software is simply a preset to make that function easier. You should be able to do all that (and more) with any pro or prosumer NLE software -- although some can be very expensive. The 4GB limit sounds like a FAT 32 format limitation, rather than one of the software. But I'd have to see it to know for sure.

Let me second the observation that you may be dealing with a disk storage file system limit. The scheme used to store files on various things (flash drives, memory cards, "thumb drives", hard drives, internal storage inside devices) can vary; but many things you can buy in a store will come pre-formatted using a scheme called FAT32, used because it's a long standing file system that can be understood by almost all computers and many other things as well. But FAT32 is also so old that it can't store files greater than 4 gigs in size.

Tell us more about how you move the files from your device to the computer.
