Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Show us your MOTO

So, seeing a few avatars of sportbikes on the track, I'm eager to see just what sort of motorcycles you guys have. Before I took up bicycling, this is where my $ and free time went:

Here I am, hard at work, pacing a CRCA club race in Central Park. This was before I decided to try following the moto.

I took it to the track a couple of times, and have a photo of that, but while it looks kinda cool to people who don't know any better, it's nothing like the avatars of you guys dragging knee/elbow, etc.
So, you other motorcyclist (past or present), show us your BIKES!

You just gave me a tremendous idea... I have a track gsxr 600. I want to show my wife how to ride it but at 100hp it sounds scary for her. I am thinking now I can disable the cylinders! Did you do anything specific to disable them or just took out the spark plug and done? Pardon if this is a stupid questions but I'd be sooooooo happy if it's that simple.

this site has a lot of info:

https://www.450triple.com/home.html

look at build method #3 on that site if you want to make it easily reversible.

mine has the valves removed from the disabled cylinder. most of us are getting around 70whp out of them.

It's interesting how sport bikes predominate here in the road cycling sub-forum, and despite their huge share of the US market, no Harleys yet. What sub-forum do you suppose they'd be found in?

By the way: anyone else ever serve as a moto official or pacer?

At races in Central and Prospect Parks (as shown here), as moto officials (that's me in the back), our number one job was to watch for "rec lane violations" - Kind of like yellow line, but a bigger deal, because even though races would start at zero dark thirty or so, there'd be joggers and such on the road, and we were constantly being threatened with losing our privileges of racing in the park if we didn't stay out of their lane.
