I got a cheap carbon saddle on eBay earlier this year (some version of this) for ****s and giggles. Believe it or not, it's pretty comfortable and it hasn't exploded on me yet.

Furthest thing from that.
I have tried a number of saddles over the decades ... and the Brooks win.

I have Selle Anatomica saddles on most of my bikes. I've been testing some of Selle SMP's saddles, and they've been working well.

There is no better seat than a Brooks. 40+ years. Many of them. When my real Italian MASI track bike was stolen from inside our company in 1984 the bike was worth about $2K then. The insurance company agreed the seat was worth about $1,000 as it was broken in.
That being said - for the weight my kid just goes composite shell. Most races are short, weight is not on the butt and shorts have big pads these days.

Addendum. In 1983 I rode coast to coast for a cause. I averaged 180 miles a day with a Brooks pro on my bike. I rode back in the car/PU truck. I remember being real sore and needing to take a break on the way back.

Older Specialized Toupe, one normal and one with carbon rails. Got about 15,000 miles on the two.

An addendum to my comments ...
I was very much a skeptic when I first got my Brooks, and for the first week, I figured I was going to end up sending it back under Wallingford Bicycles generous 6-month guarantee on their Brooks saddles.
Then Rowan, who was just an acquaintance at the time, suggested I tip the nose of the saddle up. I did ... and I've stuck with Brooks ever since.
About 3 weeks after I got my first Brooks, I did a 1000K randonnee (1000 km in 75 hours including all breaks). I brought a gel saddle cover, and extra padding for my shorts, just in case. But about 400 km into the ride, my saddle suddenly broke in (I was riding through a torrential downpour at the time), and fit like a glove on every single ride after that. I did not use the gel saddle cover but might have used the extra padding right toward the end of the ride.
I had a little over 45,000 km on that saddle when my bicycle with the saddle was stolen. Happily I recovered the bicycle 3 years later, but the saddle had been sold off. We tracked it down, but the buyer did not want to sell the saddle back to me. And by the time we tracked it down, he had defaced the saddle by applying filler and who knows what all. So we picked up a new blue Brooks B17 instead.

SMP. For the past 2 seasons, the only style I've had other than what came stock with my first bike, and have been riding one model or another for about 3,000 miles. I was sold instantly on the shape - the upturned back as much as anything. I really dislike the indefinite feeling of flat seats. I have the very cushy "Hybrid" model on the Casati, and I'm thinking it may be too much. The "Hell" model is on the Felt. I think I could go for a solid seat.

I like the original Selle Italian Flite. I've got one on my Lynskey now that's been recovered 3 times. It's got 28,000 + miles on my Lynskey alone......no telling how many total miles.
I've also got 3 others in storage and one uncovered shell waiting to be redone.

I really want to try a Brooks C15 for that Brooks feel but I think I'd feel bad putting a 400g seat on my Madone.

I like the shape and channel, but the nose "feels" too long and catches the back of my bibs when I get out of the saddle. I also hate the sticky tacky texture in some areas.
Fizik Antares VS Kium
Pretty much perfect for me. Love the shape and non-tacky texture. If I wanted a new saddle I'd probably go with the exact same one but with CF rails. Clip is a bit gimmicky, I have yet to come up with a good use for it. Maybe use it to hang my cleat covers or something.

I've been using a Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow for the last 3 years. I just ordered the SLR Tekno Flow with my new bike.
