I did a 7-day stage race cyclosportive in the French Alps. 911km and 21000m climbing in 7 days. That was the highlight of my last few years...

I rode from Brattleboro VT to Walpole MA (1 mile from Gillette Stadium) in June 2014.
I decided I needed to ride from my house to my daughter's house. Great ride. Mostly a
safe route. Next ride will be more scenic. 120 miles, age 62

Started riding a hybrid in May. Bought my road bike in September.
I have ridden 2,000 miles with an elevation gain of over 101,100 feet.
I recently did a road ride of 70 miles with over 5,000 feet of gain. Followed 3 days later of a 50 miler and around 3,000 feet.
I paid my fees for what will be my first century ride. (ride is the 3 state 3 mountain in May)
I have lost over 30 lbs and over 66,000 calories
(My riding is all hilly) My last 2 regular rides of 25 miles I averaged over 15 mph!
So proud!

Did my first century, 103 miles solo. Finally was able to upgrade from my '81 Panasonic DX4000 (that was too big) to a 2014 CAAD 10.

Low: getting hit by a truck, spending a few days in an induced coma, 13 broken bones, 3 surgeries to repair my intestines, and spending almost 5 weeks in the hospital recovering.
Highs: experiencing a full recovery from that wreck, and nearly riding a sub 5 hour solo century just 4 months later. Riding a little over 10k miles this year despite that wreck is also pretty cool.

Everybody knows my story .... lung cancer survivor (1990) - got back on my bike two years ago. Combined with cross training in the gym and diet, lost 70 lbs and 14.5 inches off my waist. Did my first 100k in September in under 5 hours. Missed three months from a emergency bowel obstruction surgery and still got in 2,000 miles. I'm going for 4,000 and my first century in 2015. Left a bad marriage, got and lost a cool job but found a great little apartment where I can hang my bike on the wall of my bedroom and have one whole tiny closet to store all my bike gear.
It's been raing here for three weeks so I've been working on the trainer and in the gym. Yesterday, I bench pressed 70 lbs. - three sets of 15 reps. That's a highlight right there.

2014 was my first full year riding in almost thirty years (I turned 51 this year). I bought a "real" bike, joined the local club, logged a couple thousand miles including two centuries, met lots of great people, and generally had a ball in the process. My favorite experience was riding the "Savory Cycle" with my wife; a metric century/progressive dinner to benefit our local community bike shop.

Highs: Early October: 1st place Kitt Peak TT, 2nd place State HC TT. November: El Tour de Tucson in 4:13. (104 miles)
Its been a hell of a year.

Started cycling regularly at the end of April on my ’06 (?) Cannondale F300 Mountain bike and documenting my rides with Map My Ride/Strava on my phone – averaging under 8 mph starting out.
Went clip less, progressed up to near metric centuries by August and averages over 14 mph. Dropped about 35lbs over the summer.
Bought a rode bike at the end of August – rode my first metric century before the end of August and boosted my average speeds to over 16 mph.
Rode my first solo full century in October – right at 6 months to the day after I began cycling. Hit average speeds over 18 mph before the end of October on rides as much as 34+ miles.
Completed another full solo century last weekend with a total mileage of 2,670 miles for the year.
Picked up a decent collection of cycling gear; jerseys, shorts, gloves, etc. over the year. Much better than what I started out with. Have a Garmin 510 coming in today that I will be looking forward to using to work on my proficiency and speed.
Edit: Strava has been a big motivator for me over the last year. I forgot to mention the huge improvements that I've seen over the year in my Strava rankings. Took a KOM on one segment (that honestly probably should be marked dangerous). Went from being happy to be in the top half of riders to breaking into the all time/ages top 20 - 30 on some of the more popular segments. I still have lots of room to improve on many segments in the new year that I'm looking forward to.

My highlight is riding again after two and a half years recovering from spinal surgery. I hopefully ride a road bike before the years out, been restricted to hybrid, mtb's.

This year was a very light year for my cycling. I have only put in about 800 miles this year. I will say that the highlight of my year was finally getting my wifes trike fixed and riding properly so she and I were able to do her first 10 mile ride. I had forgotten what a landmark event that is to a beginner "non" cyclist. Otherwise, lol, I am back well into Clyde weight and haven't ridden more than a few times a month all year. Life happens, and I look forward to having the opportunity to try for more next year with my lovely riding partner.

I went from laughing at the thought of ever riding a century to riding one every other weekend for a couple of months during the year.

Bought an awesome MTB in July, riding awesome trails, and I have lost 44 pounds on my way to 60. Now I have an awesome road bike and I am not pathetic, just kind of slow. Maybe some day I will be a fast slow...

This hasn't been my best year for cycling ... but not my worst either.
So a few highlights ...
If I think of more ... I'll add them.
So a few highlights ...
- Just last weekend, I reached 150,000 km since I started cycling "seriously" on April 29, 1990. I'm at 150,125 km right now.
. - Rowan and I rode one century (100 miles) this year ... in April. It was our first century in almost exactly 2 years ... and was my 165th century since my first one 2 decades ago in 1994.
. - We also rode five 100-120K rides ... 4 of them on our own, and 1 was an event ...
. - We rode our first Audax event in a couple years ... a 100K on November 2.
. - Last February, we attended the Evandale Pennyfarthing Championships ... fascinating!! I've always wanted to see those in action, and the next day we were out on a ride and met up with a group of people just riding around on their pennyfarthings. I got a chance to chat to one girl about hers. Hmmm ... tempting!
. - In September, we flew to North America and picked up our new Bike Fridays. They have been a lot of fun to ride!
. - In September, while in North America, we were also able to go for a ride with my father.
. - And we finally got all our bicycles out of storage where they were for more than a year. On the last weekend of November we did a hub-and-spoke tour in northern Tasmania and were finally able to ride our tandem again. The rest should be ready to ride early in the new year.
If I think of more ... I'll add them.

Funny thing about that. I keep forgetting about the 1 1/2 hr surgery to fix my nose and the other 4 fractured vertabrae. Oh, and the upper and lower lips and the 6 stitches in my hand. 1 1/2 yrs. later I still can't feel parts of my lips and the entire back of my head. But, hey, it pales in comparison to your deal. Really.

Antelope Island was really striking scenery. Would have preferred a flatter time trial course, but definitely an interesting place.
