Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I use to have that problem, but not any more. A couple of years ago my girlfriend said she would take care of my banana for me. Now at the end of every ride I have a smile on my face. Although I am a little dehydrated.

I'm assuming that either:

A) you ride a tandem with your gf

B) your gf takes care of your sag support while u ride.

my wife sometimes drove with food when i had those solo days in the mountains for more than 4 hours at a time. We were in love. Now i have to carry my own sag.

I eat chipotle after I ride to counter the constipation effect of the banana. If Chipotle counter effects too well then I just use this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU52dvVvt_o

I can't believe this almost stayed on topic
I try not to treat my banana rough while I'm out riding.

As jokingly as it may seem it is a legit concern. What makes it weirder is that it happens when I go out in 30-40F degree weather when I "think" don't sweat that much but it never happened in much hotter weather. Maybe the bananas were already somewhat ripe? I don't want to buy energy bars etc because they are expensive and pack way too many calories for my rides.

A) No I don't, but that's a great idea. How about a tandem recumbent with what looks like a lawn chair on it.

B) That too :-)

You sweat just as much when it is cold outside as you do when it is warm.

And if you want an alternative to bananas, try granola bars or oatmeal raisin cookies. I haven't eaten an "energy bar" in years.

Could be a bad batch of bananas. I don't see how they would get permeated with sweat.

I prefer a "spicy" snack when I pause to take a break. Of course here in the Midwest we don't have many good restaurants. Mostly we have fast food places like Taco Bell. I just wonder... has anyone found a way to have a fresh taco handy when taking a cycling break.

Your banana store got a batch or two that are reacting your heat & moisture due to..... complicated banana things.

Hey man- fruit ripens; you just gotta learn to roll with it!

The problem is you're taking a real banana on the ride. You know, they make ones with a battery inside.

When selecting a banana to take along for a ride, I always choose one that is still a bit green or unripened as opposed to all the way yellow or spotted. I have done a lot of baking over the years and one of my favorites is banana bread which calls for over ripened bananas and sometimes you need to speed the ripening process up to be able to cook it properly and the preferred methods are either place in a bag with an acidic vegetable overnight or place in a low temp oven for 30-60 minutes. I would bet that having a ripe or slightly over ripened banana put in a jersey pocket (bag) combined with your body heat (oven) may just simulate both preferred methods of accelerated banana ripening? Or maybe place a viagra in with the fruit to keep it firm?

They also have a banana that just before you eat it you give it an injection and if it has turned soggy, it stiffens right up.

It's your fault. :-) Look at what you titled this thread "Does your Banana sweat". When I saw that I thought, is this guy serious?

Bandanas are supposed to get sweaty, that's why they're made from cotton.

I remember when Clif Bars were new to the market, they were a godsend compared to PowerBars - now THOSE were gritty pieces of horse poo.
