Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bought my first road bike in June, and started logging my fitness that same week. Stopped riding in late November due to cold weather. Managed to get in just over 900 miles. Got a trainer and set it up for Christmas, so hoping to get a better start next year.

Also swam just under 50 miles in that timeframe. Very happy about my newfound healthy lifestyle (former runner who now has arch issues).

6,938 miles, 350 hrs, 82,819 ft elevation. Also live in FL, but frequently ride in San Antonio and Brookville which have some nice lil hills. Going for an afternoon ride and might break the 7,000 if I feel in the mood.

2,385 miles, about ten percent improved over last year. Crash a year ago slowed overall distances. For 2015, goal is set to a modest 2500 miles.

First full year here as well, since I used a bike to commute to Uni.

Miles: 4151
Time: 260h 15m
Elevation: 272,638'

I'm pretty happy; work and travel took a real toll in October/November/December, but that's the way of it.

In one of the coldest wettest years of late I still exceeded my annual 2000 miles. Even not counting my vintage bicycle rides or my trainer miles.

10,368 miles before riding today.

Much less than most years, but most years I don't get hit by a truck, and spend over a month in the hospital.

Unofficially per Strava:

2073 miles
113, 068 elevation gain

I don't track my commutes which averages about 20 miles per week so I'm probably close to 3000 for the year...but who's counting?

A good year for me. I set out to do better than the 7620 miles I rode last year, a high since the '70s years of my racing; those totals this body will never see again!

I came out of the womb horizontal, I will return to the earth horizontal and all but 9,000 of my miles have been ridden on horizontal dropouts.

On the pissing contest? Well, at 61 yo, distance and volume are out of the question but I make up for that with frequency!
