Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i got shelled after 12 miles. i was trying to hang on to their 24-26mph pace over some rollers and couldnt close a gap on one of the climbs. that was all she wrote. another rider and i turned back and rode back together, which shortened our ride by about 5 miles. the fast guys caught us and passed us on the way back.

if this is how their off-season rides are, i have a LOT of work to do.
Those are good rides to judge progress.

Yep. Nothing beats the feeling of hanging with the bunch, especially when you know it was much more than a brisk pace.

My wife is an avid cyclist and I've learned to buy or order two of everything. If I don't, she steals whatever I buy unless it's clothes and even then, we can share several items.

My wife and daughters frequently borrow/steal my cycling jackets. They have also bought a few PI cycling jackets even though they are not cyclists. My 13 year old in particular looks really good in her purple PI jacket that, ironically, my wife bought for herself and was subsequently appropriated by my daughter.

If I tried to put on my wife's shorts it would be painful and comical to see. But its a sign of a very strong marriage if your wife allows you in her jersey

-20 wind chill here tonight and in the morning.... ugh. They already canceled schools in the area tomorrow.

Also, part of my work tonight is walking around the outer perimeter of the plant to be sure no doors were left open so none of our pipes freeze.

Not exactly. The sheriff can probably explain better, but I believe the report generates a message to the mods.

What happens next depends on the specifics. Post may get deleted, edited, moved, or maybe just "watched."

I am jealous. Our roads are too snow covered to ride. Plus, it's 14F out and going down to near zero tonight.

Stupid winter is putting a damper on my cycling. I might even get fat at this rate.

Just shut off the A/C in my office. Even on fan mode, the cold air coming in from the factory floor is too much... Glad I got out of there!

Static ports are used for airspeed, altimeter and VSI (vertical speed). AOA is an electro-mechanical device. So, bottom line, you have no altimeter, unreliable airspeed and no vertical speed.

There were some other amusing (to instructors) things we did to the students. In truth though, we did not put tape over the static ports.
