Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best Winter gloves 40-60 f.

Need recommendations.
My PI Pros are not warm enough
and my PBs, with fleece linings, are too warm.
Thanks!

I like PI Cyclone gloves. They are wind and water resistant, but little insulation so they don't overheat. Moderate gel padding (which I like).

In the 40's I wear these over my regular gloves until my hands warm up. Made by Nalini. Above 50 I don't need winter gloves.

40-60F? That's not winter!
Personally, I've found basic knit gloves (DeFeet cordura) sufficient down to the low 40s.

These REI glove liners are really thin and smooth. They fit inside my fleece gloves, or as a third layer in my goretex shell+liner gloves. And even under my summer fingerless gloves at 55-62F. They probably go at least 5 degrees colder for any glove. Then they stuff very small in my jersey pocket if the day warms up.

Everybody has different tolerances for cold hands, so what works for me might not for you. I am sensitive to cold hands and don't really ever feel too hot. I wear full finger gloves year round even when it's over 90 degrees in the summer.

If your hands run colder, Giro Ambient gloves are great, recommended by the company for 40 degrees. They're water and wind resistant and have a warm fleecy inside. These are my favorites if it's going to be under 50 degrees.

Slightly less insulating are Giordana Corsa Windtex gloves. They are wind blocking but have less insulation than the Giro Ambient. They also make the glove for other companies, I got the Capo branded version on eBay on the cheap. I like these for temps in the 50s.

^ Giro Ambient... better than the Assos early winter or the Castelli I had.

I really like my Bontrager Race Windshell gloves for that temperature range. Anything below that, and I'll wear something heavier.

I buy various weight gloves for $5 from the local discount store. Very thin cotton for warm temps, down to cheap ski gloves for 20f.

Thermal Griping Gloves. $5.99. Good from 35-50 for me. Maybe 55. They're not good in heavy rain, though.

I bought Pearl Izumi but they have a loose fit. I also bought some high end Louis Garneau ones and they were way too hot. I replaced them with Endura Strike glove and they are perfect for 30F - 40F, like them so much it has also been my winter glove for regular use.

I get cold hands so I'm in gloves anytime below 60F unless a heavy climbing ride where they are off and on. For me when it gets to about 50F, I use two layers, a thin cotton type and then a "regular" mild winter type bike glove. This gives options to take a layer off mid ride. I also find that my hands can start to sweat some and I get colder. Its a delicate balance and I usually return with cold hands regardless. Don't get me started on the days in the 40s where I crack open the chemical hand warmers......

DeFeet wool gloves down to 45ish.. then I add a gore-tex single layer shell mitten after that. Rode 1.5hr at 36F today like that and hands were never cold.

send some of that *cold* 65F air east and we'd be in short gloves and arm warmers. going to be 20's here next week... boooo

I concur, on my second pair of Grio Ambient Ii, good down to 40F for hours on end. I prefer the Amient ii over the original Ambient for comfort.

Head running gloves from Costco. They even have a conductive area for the thumb and index fingers so that you don't have to take your gloves off to use your phone.

Let me throw in the assos spring / fall gloves here. I have these and they are great. I'd say it's perfect somewhere between 43-60 for me, but everybody is different.

I have Pearl Izumi conductive Thermal Lite gloves and really like them. Snug fit so they don't move around but surprisingly warm for what they are. At least for me, mine are good down til around mid or lower 30's depending on conditions.

I so agree - 40 to 60f is not winter - 40 to 50 I just wear a pair of full finger summer gloves - winter is 30f and below.......

Really, you don't have winter in CA unless you are north and live in the mountains! ASSOS - most expensive stuff on the planet (though it is extermely great stuff)

It's dead winter right now. And it's sunny and 72 degrees out. I'm going for a ride. My lightweight gloves should suffice today.
