would you drop $17K on the new Eddy Merckx steel beast if you could?

Eddy is in Business Now, he has to keep up with the market driven priorities .. Nostalgia only gets you So Far.
$17K
I Think its called 17 Large. rather than 17 Bills.. since I dont think there is any bills larger than $100 (Benjamin) printed.

I'm with you. I don't see what is so cool about riding a bike with some famous guy's name on it. It is not like he can say, "I won the TdF on a bike just like this, and you can too." It is all vanity not performance ccompared to bikes costing less than half as much.

It's marketed towards those guys who enjoy riding those high profile charity rides who can stage it in the man cave alongside all those high profile charity ride jerseys collected over the years. I guess.
Steel may be real, but there are other bikes I'd rather have.

You're correct. Bills used to go up to $100,000, but that was before electronics took over banking. Those were only used for large interbank transfers anyway.

you have that kind of discretionary income? You need to post in the latest "what job do you have" thread.

Never, not even if I could afford it, and I am a Merckx fan and previous owner of a Corsa 01 and AX. For that much money, you could buy a pristine MX Leader or Corsa and have enough cash left over for a nice vacation to Europe, a healthy down payment on a car, or two years of max contributions to your IRA.

What's that about? Several of the improvements in modern frame performance accrue to the sloping top tube. It is not just about being able to offer fewer sizes.

Would you spend $17k on a Elvis guitar? Eddy is akin to Elvis in the bike world and Europe is just wild about bikes!

Totally different. Eddie is still alive, AND he never rode one of those bikes in his career. I doubt you meant a guitar LIKE the ones used by Elvis, or the kind of guitar Elvis might be playing if he were still alive. Poor analogy.

Yeah that kills it for me. But otherwise I'd be all over it.

A signed guitar would do. I stand by my analogy, especially against criticism from someone who just out to score internet points.

That's okay. I don't have to win. Just as long as nobody takes my compact frames away from me, I'm good.

As for the bike, no thanks. Steel is real, but it must be vintage steel with quill stem, and no sloping top tube.
