It looks like a great bike but thats a ton of coin..........But if I had it I would do it.
But at $5K they could sell a ton of something almost as nice for the restof us poor saps.

Nope.
I couldn't imagine it riding better than my Roadeo.

It's a stainless steel frame with Record and Ulta Bora wheels. So that's probably an $8,000 bike. There's only 70 made so that exclusivity is worth another $3,000. The bottom line is customers are overpaying by $6,000 or $7,000.

Never, not even if I could afford it, and I am a Merckx fan and previous owner of a Corsa 01 and AX. For that much money, you could buy a pristine MX Leader or Corsa and have enough cash left over for a nice vacation to Europe, a healthy down payment on a car, or two years of max contributions to your IRA.

No! Every time I ride I hear squeaking, me thinks it's my chain needs lubricating, no it's only me because I'm squeaky cheap.

the amount of disposable income I would require to justify a ride like that would put me net worth deep into the 9 digit territory.

You couldn't ride it, it would immediately depreciate the bike's value.
As a "collectable" I'm dubious that its value would appreciate very much over the foreseeable future, so there would be minimal ROI.
But I'm sure there are 70 people with money to throw away who are already placing an order.
Me, I'd rather have a bikes I can ride.

The only way I would buy one is if no one else could afford it but wanted it. Then I would buy it to show what a bike snob I am.

The shape of the fork kills it for me. Not that I would ever pay 17 grand for a bike, but still....fork ugly.

Nice looking bike, but I'd commission a steel or Ti Baum well before spending that coin on the Mecckx.
