Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

castelli jersey size charts - crazy for a man to use a women's jersey?

I usually wear a small jersey, in some tighter brands a medium fits better. I prefer a fairly fitted jersey.

I'm looking to get a castelli gabba or trasparente jersey, according to their size chart I am right smack in between men's small and medium, I am closer to medium in chest and small in waist.

However, my chest and waist measurements are exactly on for a women's large...

From the pictures on castelli's site the women's jerseys look quite a bit more narrow in the waist, but that should not be a problem for me. I do wonder if the sleeve length would work out, as a large women's may have much longer sleeves than a small men's. I suspect the women's shoulders are narrower...
I don't have a castelli store close by to try these on

for comparson:

Anyone try jersey crossdressing to get the perfect size?

I'd love to be able to wear Castelli anything.
If the shoe fits, wear it.
I don't think there are any girl-jersey cops out there.

This. Women are not just small men.

Not a problem if you stuff the chest with tissues.

Seriously though, I have found that Castelli clothing runs small, way small. I bet if you ordered the medium it would fit fine, unless you like your jerseys really tight.

For comparison, I wear a size large in most jerseys and jackets, and some of them (like Pearl Izumi) fit loosely. However, I have a Castelli jacket in XL, and it fits tighter than my large jackets from other makers.

Yeah, Castelli, I'm fairly snug in a XXL, Pearl Izumi most things I'm a bit loose in a Large (except one weirdly cut pro xl that is too tight for me).

I'm 5'10" 150 lbs and medium Castelli jerseys fits me perfectly. I think people who complain about their sizing are used to loose fitting cycling stuff.

I think you'd have to try it on in person or have some really good pictures and measurements to figure it out. I've bought a few women's cycling tops from different companies for myself because I liked the graphics, and they tend to run shorter in length both in the body and the arms and in one case the neck was too narrow. My physique is more like the average pro cyclist than the average american though. I am 5'6" 135-140 pounds and their small San Remo suit is skintight on me, which is what it should be.

You would probably have better luck in women's kit with the boxier club cut styles, but it seems like the Castelli women's would be less likely to work due to their cut probably being more fitted or pro/aero. The Gabba is their bad/rain weather jersey, so I think the cut would be fitted/close and less likely that a women's version would work for you.

You do realize you are a rail, right? You should be able to wear a small or xsmall. In all my shirts and sweaters I wear a medium at 5' 7.5" and 170 lb. Also in all normally sized cycling wear. I have to add two to three sizes to Castelli and they still don't fit. It BS. There is tight and then there is ridiculous.

You just can't really have any spare tire if you're going to wear race fit euro-sized jerseys. I'm 5'9" 150-155lbs. (have weighed as much as 195lbs.) and a small race cut and aero Castelli jerseys fit me fine but bunched up way too much in the riding position so I returned them. My old medium club cut Pearl Izumi jerseys look comically large on me on the bike now.

I wear a small in castelli jersey, it fits fine, but their windvest isn't that snug fit on size small so I went with the women's small version

FYI, Competitive Cyclist has a lot of Castelli jerseys on sale right now. This is the best time to buy summer stuff. And they have great customer service, I had to do an exchange last summer.

No criticism intended. But you are still a rail. And that's a good thing.

Seconded.

Buying cycle-specific clothing is often a hilarious crap shoot.

Castelli's womens jerseys are cut for women with curves...
Castelli men size S is too large for me so I tried women M and S, but they are too wide in the waist.
So you probably wouldn't be happy with a woman jersey from Castelli, but it might work for other brands.

You refer to "normal" for the US, right?

Yes, but clothes I have purchased in Brussels are similarly sized.

I love Castelli bib shorts and tights, but the fit on their jerseys is just strange. I guess you have to have the build of a world tour racer. If your chest is bigger around than your hips, or you carry any muscle in your shoulders/arms, they're just not going to fit right.
