Neugent or Boyd
can't decide which will fit my riding needs.
Altamont alloy clincher - Boyd Cycling
Specifications
the set will go on my Jamis Cx bike but most likely won't see any cross racing (i'll use the stock wheels). i want something that i can use for road racing/training and maybe a gravel ride or two.
suggestion?

gotta be a little concerned about a company with errors in the ad copy...
"Building on the success of the popular Vitesse wheel set with a wider rim profile, the Altamont rim is 24mm wide with an internal diameter * of 18.3mm"
internal diameter?
*my emphasis

I have a set of the Altamonts, I think they're great wheels for the price.

I've got the Altamonts & they are excellent. I crashed & messed up the rear wheel, Boyd brought it back to new condition for $100. He got it back to me in under a week and didn't even charge me the return shipping. Gotta love a company that stands behind its products like that.

+1 on Boyds. I have a set of his 2013 44mm carbon clinchers for my road bike ('05 Jamis Eclipse ), love them so much I just put Altamont disc brake wheels on my new all-rounder/dirt/gravel/do everything bike for same reasons. I wanted a bombproof wheelset with a deeper aero profile for fast group road rides & centuries, and also take up to 700X40mm Clement MSO X'Plors for mixed road/dirt/gravel trail rides.
Not to mention Boyd is great people and stands behind his stuff as mentioned, and he has a very reasonably priced crash replacement program.

I spent some time researching the Boyd carbons; great service and I'm now a customer. Very happy with the product. While I don't have the Altimonts, I can speak to the hubs being good so far and the overall experience being good. Wheels were built very well and I expect that to be true throughout their line of wheels.

Just for fun, do a comparable build on prowheelbuilder.com and compare the prices. A couple of years ago, I bought a set from them and the price was comparable to any similar wheel I could find online, plus they gave me excellent services.

Boyd wheels are really nice. I bought a set of Altamonte and can't say enough about them. The customer service is top shelf also. Worth considering for sure.

nuegent wheels
My experience with Nuegent wheels was. My 50's delaminated while riding and I almost killed myself. His statement to me was "that's the nature of carbon wheels". According to the higher end companies his statement is untrue. I used them less than three months! He is willing to relace another one for me for $350 at a discount he says. Take a chance on another crash NO Thanks!
