Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll post here if/when I learn anything. Fact is they have removed all references to the early website "promises" on the upgrade, which when they first went to market was being promised within a couple of months. No it's "no decision has been made," and lately total silence.

RE early adopters who bought with the expectation of eventually upgrading....I dunno. My theories are that there may not be enough of them to matter to 4iiii and perhaps they will be offered some incentive to purchase the new system if/when it ever gets to market. Or the customer pool might be so small they'll decide to just take the hit. But in a data vacuum, who knows...?

Ticks me off after all the research finally led me to their being the best solution for me at this time!

Why not the Saris chainrings or pedals?

Waiting for the cheaper units to mature. Even the saris ones you mention are first or second generation.

You trust the 4iiiis more? Saris has much more of a proven track record in power (and customer support).

I am an early adopter who is very disappointed right now. With many knee surgeries I wanted true left, right power to see how my recovery was.
It is very discouraging to here 4iiii brag about dual sided power for Etixx but for some reason they can't answer the question about upgrading. Should not be a question at all. From the beginning they advertised dual sided but wanted to get people riding on power so they were shipping single sided first.

You made a purchasing decision predicated on a company's plans for and promises about an unreleased product? My condolences.

RChung....you've made your point. Several times. Got it.

Not everyone is/was as smart as you.

I feel for those who bought into 4iiii's marketing BS. You don't. Fine. Move along.

Hmmm. And your current approach -- that's worked for you in the past?

As of yet, no. But I am curious about their product, which is why I posted this thread. TBH I am in no rush to buy a PM and at this point will likely hold off until the dust settles on the budget priced units.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Honestly, right now I'm not sure what I'd do if I were still in tri - there's so much out there than there used to be just a couple of years ago!

Rchung,

I apologize for my intemperate comments. You certainly have a right to your opinions and their expression here. The repeated comments about how unwise purchasers (or would-be puchasers) of this product might be just rubbed me the wrong way. No one likes to hear "I told you so...." (or its near equivalent). But, as you point out, this is the internet and my comments certainly didn't contribute to a positive discussion on the topic.

I have a bit more data on the upgrade/backward compatibility question, but I'm waiting to hear from 4iiii to make sure I have my facts straight.

In the meantime, has anyone who purchased one of the "original" (vague term, I know) units heard from 4iiii? They are claiming that these people have been contacted with further info on the "product development."

Just an update, there is a new 0.4 firmware that's just been released. Battery life on the original battery was right at the claimed 100 hours.
