Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a Showers Pass Cloud Cover phone case (essentially a heavy duty zip loc bag).

https://www.showerspass.com/products...r-iphone6-case

Though this one is advertised as for the iPhone 6, the sizing info says a Galaxy S4 fits inside - I assume that's the one I have.

Ziploc bag and carry it in the saddle bag with the spare tube, CO2 and tools.

I started using these by loksak. They fit better than a standard ziplock and are a lot more heavy duty. Pretty cheap too.

In my jersey pocket, flat screen towards my back.

Just ziploc bags? Or any other effective bags/ways?
Naked. My Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport is rated IP67, water proof to 3' deep for 30 minutes. Sweat won't hurt it.

The sales girl told me it was more water proof than the regular one; but that's also IP67 and would have worked as well without being neon blue with unknown compatibility with regular S5 mounts

I also got the equipment warranty until I prove to myself that it's durable. Laptops do not hold up to my use and I see the on-site service people at least annually.

It's smaller than it looks, that's an old phone model. My HTC One M8 just barely fits and fills up most of the length. Touchscreen still works when the phone is inside. Has pockets in the back for ID or something else really thin.

I've been using one of these Cycling Ride Pouch ? WaterField Designs for a while and love it. It also keeps me from having to use a saddle bag.

I have one of these in medium. It's fully waterproof and big enough for a tube, multitool, inflator, patch kit, levers, AND my wallet, phone, and keys.

Second vote for the Lezyne. I keep about $30 cash/change, add credit card, drivers license, insurance card in addition to the phone. Its perfectly sized for a jersey pocket, and great for stopping at a mid-ride coffee shop.

That's why I use fold-top sandwich bags, much cheaper and works as well short of immersion. I didn't expect to have an unmentioned suggestion when I clicked into this thread

I actually manage to fit mine in my saddlebag. I wrap it in one of those eyeglass cleaning cloths, then inside a small zip-loc bag, then it goes right at the back of my saddlebag. Nice and snug. Obviously, if you don't use a saddlebag, that's not a great solution. But my thinking is, it'll be exposed to less weather there, and by virtue of being centered on the bike; should I take a spill it's most protected there.

The first time I realized just how much sweat makes its way into the Jersey pocket (at least for me) was an indoor trainer session. I always struggled with finding a way to keep the TV remote somewhere (gotta skip the commercials on the DVR!). Then it hit me. Duh! Jersey Pocket! So I put a Jersey on, stuck the remote back there. Pulled it out to skip some commercials. Yuck! One sweaty remote.

Keeping your smartphone waterproof;how?

In January was this similar thread in the General Cycling Forum, ”Water proof cases for iPhones”

My wife was dubious when I bought an IPhone 6+, warning me it could easily fall out of my shirt pocket (into the toilet). So I was delighted when that very weekend I went to a national meeting of the American Association of Blood Banks, and they distributed the great meeting ID badge holders pictured below.

On the front is a clear plastic small badge holder for my work ID, needed to gain access through the entrance where I take my bike. On the reverse is larger clear plastic pocket, a perfect fit for the I Phone 6+. Inserted upside down allows easy access to the headphone jack and home button, the speaker is unobstructed, and I can still use the touch screen. Between the badge and IPhone holders is a flat zippered pocket for my power cord.

On the bike I wear it around my neck underneath my innermost jersey, resting on my T-shirt so it is kept warm next my chest, insulated by the outer layers, and protected from sweat by the plastic case and T-shirt. Notifications and sounds from my playlist are easily audible. The weight of the Phone is noticeable, but if I hike up my Lycra cycling shorts or tights, and tuck in my jersey, the shirt supports the weight of the phone. I then wear it all day at work as my ID badgeholder.

So far, I’ve ridden with it down to 19º F. No drenching rain yet, and I have pretty good rainwear, but I likely would not ride in a drenching rain anyways, and a Ziplock bag would provide additional protection. Summer was well over when I got it so those conditions await experience.

So now after I came home from the meeting, I jokingly quote my wife as, “You went to Philadelphia and only brought back that crummy badgeholder?.”

Cycling Ride Pouch ? WaterField Designs
Kinda expensive, but it's a very quality product and it allowed me to get rid of my saddle bag . Also convenient if you have multiple bikes as you don't have to move contents of a saddle bag.

Galaxy S5 in a Lifeproof case. When I had my S3, I followed the advice of everyone else here and just kept it in a Ziplock bag.
