The creaking won't stop

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The creaking won't stop

I've replaced the wheel bearings, checked and adjusted the headset, stem and bars. It's not the saddle, post, or cleats. The BB is smooth, and I've cleaned, lubed and readjusted the crank spindle.

The Speedplay pedals are smooth and spin freely. What else should I check?

As funny as this sounds, what type of shoes are you wearing? I know you mentioned your cleats but it could very much be the flexing of the sole on your shoes. It took me FOREVER to find where the god damn creaking was coming from on my bike and after doing everything, it came down the shoes I was wearing. Needless to say I used that as the first excuse to go out and buy a brand new pair. New shoes=no more squeeking and creaking. For me atleast!

What kind of bike? My C'dale had a mysterious creak that we couldn't pin down. The shop finally got them to admit that it was a known problem for certain years/models because of an Al collar inside the seat tube. They switched out the seatpost twice, then finally offered to warantee out the frame.

Speedplay spindles not greased. Also the speedplay pedals should NOT spin freely. You need to inject some grease in them.

We need more info. When does it creak? With each pedal revolution? Worse sitting vs standing??

Check your QR skewers, I had a very difficult to isolate creak that was worse with standing, and it ended up being the front QR.

This ^^^ Had this happened a couple of months ago. Speedplay bearings have clearance which creates sound when they run dry of grease.

Also, check your skewers OP. Play with different clamp tension front and back.

i suspected the pedals too, but need a thinwall 9mm socket to replace the bearings. They have over 30k miles of use, so it's probably time for new bearings. My old X-Type ones never made a sound, and spun freely for over 70k miles, but I'll try injecting some grease. Oil did nothing.

I did check the skewers, it's not them.

Campag4life seems to know the cure, but I'll never buy a bike that uses one.

So they say. Component manufacturers don't seem as sold on it as the bike companies.

Makes sure the front fork and rear hub drop outs and the axle end caps on the hubs are clean as well as your skewers. You can also try a dab of wd40 in thee areas given they can creak when flexing. I had creaking occur in these areas when they got dirty.

Alao depending upon frame material a crack in a joint can cause creaking. I don't wish that on you. Just sayin'.

The front Crane Creek brake arms on my Trek were creaking. Holding them while riding helped, grease worked better.
