Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is definitely on my list of things to do, I have to see if we have a non-important meet in the future for my attempt. I would love to do it this year, but only being a junior doesn't force me to rush into it.

Butterfly is kinda of my main stroke, but I am nothing crazy at it. I usually get about 1:05 for the 100y, good enough to win 80% of races I swim in, Division 3 is very slow haha.

I officiated the Indiana Senior State Championship meet last weekend. The meet was held at Notre Dame. At the meet, we had at least two high school swimmers set pool records.

Fly is tough. It takes a lot of strength and timing. I have a lot of respect for you if you can do 1000 yards swimming the Fly.

While I like swimming for what it is, I don't love it enough to give my total dedication to it. My bet is that the record setting swimmers
swam club year round since grade school. It is cool and all, but it wouldn't be fun for me at that point.

My brother used to swim with this one guy from our school, this guy put swimming over everything in his life. We don't have an organized swim club where we live (small town) so he would do 2 practices a day, with an hour drive each way to practice. His dad turned into a meet official so he could be payed to see his son swim (genius). All of this swimming got him a full-ride scholarship to multiple division 1 schools right away from his ridiculous times. His dad is the official for our home meets, as he still lives in the small town, very nice guy.

Yeah, but you did get a definitive answer to the question, right? Who cares where it goes after you've got yours. I know it is possible to feel like a proud papa about your threads, but once you throw it out there, there is no control.

You are correct regarding the record setting swimmers. One of them (girl) is a senior in HS and has been swimming year round as a club swimmer for as long as I remember. The other (boy) is 15 and I suspect he is also a year round club swimmer.

My three daughters club swim. The middle is the best, but she spends most of her time with her mother and her mother does not encourage swimming. As a result, the best swimmer in the family suffers. She makes Championship time cuts without practicing. She is just strong and fast. We are fortunate here. We have 15 clubs within a half hour drive make it 45 minutes and you can add five more.

It's an interesting transition. By my observations, the three sport athletes are dinosaurs. Now, if you want to excel, you find your sport and participate in it year round.

Technically I was home already so I didn't officially get sick on vacation, still ending my birthday on a low note.

My ride for today got cancelled and we substituted getting some baby chickens and planning a coop and chicken run for the yard. My fiancee had been working on me for over a year to get chickens and she caught me in a moment of weakness after feeding me fresh eggs from her brothers chickens and she capitalized on it quickly. I love fresh eggs, but I'm not convinced that this will be worth it. She has had chickens most of her life, so I'll let her do most of the work I guess.

USA Swimming is, essentially, the sanctioning body for amateur swimming in the USA. USAS runs the Olympic Trials. At lower levels the run Age Group Swimming through local clubs. The swimmers range in age from about 5 years old through college and at the Elite levels, Olympic swimmers. In Indiana we have about 100 clubs.

Yeah. That's the same thing my wife said before I built her a hoop house.
