Buying a used Caad10
Hello, I am new to the forum. I am being offered a used 2013 CAAD 10 Sram Force. The owner said he did use it all and is relatively new and he is offering 1500 for all the bike, bottle cages, and pedals. Is it a good deal? From what i see the bike is in good conditions but i am relatively new to cycling. I need insights if its worth buying the Caad10 or buying another bike

Here's the blue book value for the bike: 2013 Cannondale CAAD10 2 Force Racing D - New and Used Bike Value
Seems the price is right about there. Can you negotiate more on the price? You should at least take a look.
Beautiful bike btw

I just bought a 2012 caad10 105 for $500 and sold a Giant TCR advanced SL Ultegra for $1000. Market in Chicago might be different but I would offer $1000 and see if they will at least come down. Bike is 2 years old and lbs around me was selling previous year 105 for $1175 a few months ago. That bike has sold recently on eBay from $1000-1500

Thanks chipndale9, I'm sure i can negotiate the price a bit down. There's also a new SRAM rival 2014 caad10 on sale online for the same price. It's a hard choice to choose between the two. What are the pros and cons of getting a uses force, or new rival?

Force is a better level, pretty good components. I run Rival on my CAAD 10, no issues at all with it. Make sure the bike fits you properly, before you pop the cash into their hands.

I would probably go with the new one if price is the same. Frame is the same (2014 might have internal cable routing but not sure) . Functionality of the two groups is identical. Force has some carbon parts and saves a couple hundred grams, wheels are probably a little better with the Force bike. But for same price I'd go new

Regardless of what the market says it's worth, a used aluminum bike isn't worth 1500 bucks to me. In your position, I'd rather go to an LBS, buy something new (CAAD 10 105 or Rival maybe?) and build a relationship with a local entity that can provide me, a n00b, with valuable service.

Weigh it up against a brand new CAAD10 105 11-speed bike, price-wise. Sure the SRAM Force is a good groupset, but new 11-speed 105 is very sweet. The other thing to factor in is that this seller is willing to add the extras, which you'd have to buy if you went new.
From the photos you linked, this one looks to be in fairly good condition - so $1500 is not too much IMO.
cheers

I just bought a demo 2014 CAAD10 105 for $900+tax with full warranty (in the bay area). Based on this I'd try to lower the price a bit. Force is great and the bike looks good though, so if you like the color and be able to lower the price a bit go for it. I'd give around $1,200 for it if it does not creak.
EDIT: and don't get me wrong, caad10 probably has the best value you can get and it's a great bike.

The CAAD10 is a fine bike- but I wouldn't give $1500 or anywhere near that for a 2 year-old one. There are just too many deals out there on brand new '13's and '14's for less, with the same level of groupset. I'd offer $900-$1000 for the '13.

CAAD10 is an excellent machine. That said, if I had $1500 to spend, I would go to a local Cannondale LBS and just get a new one. For that kind of money, I'd want a full warranty to come with the bike just in case.

Couldn't agree with you more. If you are new, you are gonna need and want the advice and options from the LBS. They help in more ways than selling bikes in my opinion. They introduce you to other riders, give you discounts down the road. If you get in a pinch and need a quick fix, they push you to the front of the line. I am a very frugal person, I refuse to pay full price for almost everything. However, I was also new to the sport and sprung for a late model 14 Tarmac with a 300 dollar discount off sticker price. The guys, threw in bottle cages and bottles free of charge, gave me route maps and invited me to a group ride. Couldn't be happier....new sport, new friends, new support network....worth the extra money.

Shooot....I got my barely 1 year-old [at the time] hardly-ridden Venge (w/ Ultegra) for more than 50% off of new price; and it had about $800 worth of upgrades on it- for just a few hundred bucks more than what the OP's friend wants for the CAAD10. Bikes depreciate quickly! It is not at all uncommon for even a one year-old bike to sell for only 50% of it's MSRP. If I can't get a substantial discount on any used item, I'll just buy new. The only incentive for buying used, is price.

to be fair, that price is approaching half of the new price of that bike. side by side the Force bike is an upgrade everywhere except the frame/fork. the caad is a damn nice bike, if you like it and SRAM shifting, go for it. ask him which pedals he's giving with the bike also (since you mentioned it had some that came with it). that bike is clean and new msrp was $2800, on a used bike you should be able to get a couple hundy off without much effort, offer 12-1300 if he bites go for it. helluva nice bike.
