Chinese Carbon Road Bars

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, you know I came close to that last week when my STEEL saddle clamp bolt broke and the saddle and clamp parts went all over the road. No the post didn't crack and offer up a sharp end to my ass, but I still knew I couldn't sit down. Anyhow controlling the bike after the surprise wasn't as bad as I would have thought. I will take that any day over a broken handlebar. Neither would be nice too, but just sayin'.

I found a set of 3T Aeronova Team Stealth Bars in my size 44 and ordered them. Yes they are authentic and i cant wait till they arrive. Funny thing is that while i was searching for them I noticed WALMART sold them lmfaooo. Lucky me I have a Wally World Card so I orderd them from Walmart.

The only reason I ordered them from Walmart is to see the expression on anybodies face when they ask me where I bought them from

Like Amazon, Walmart is just the agency. A bike parts store is actually selling the bars.

Captain Serious has arrived! Still funny to say "I got a bike part from Walmart that alone costs more than most complete bikes they sell"

Hope you have a better experience then me. Word of advise, DONT disassembling your cockpit just yet. If you can just take off the bars and leave all the shifters and brake cable in tack, still on the original bars. Mount the Chinese bar and get on the trainer to simulate regular road riding. If it passed the torque test your good. If you hear a crack, get a refund.

I took off everything and then tested the bars. I was alittle too excited.

Good luck, hope it works out. Sweet Bars

Newsflash. All handlebars flex. If your CF didn't flex at all they wouldn't be very comfortable, and they'd weigh a ton. The question is how much they flex.

yes the design, the feel, the look, the finish All sweet. except for the break That's why I took one on the chin and bought the real ones. But if they would have worked I would have kept them.

When the real one arrives I will take pictures of both of them side by side.

Did they come shipped in a paper bag that was surrounded with 200 layers of tape? Because that's how my fake 3T bars were shipped. They survived a crash that wrecked my frame and shifter and put me in a concussion

Guys who are buying these light bars, DO NOT use the torque max recommended by your stem manufacturer. I have crushed a pair of light Kestrel bars at 4 Nm when the FSA stem instructions recommended 6 Nm. I find that 2 Nm is more than enough especially when using carbon paste. Go past that at your own risk.

a tangentially related note:

I would love to get some nice carbon ergo bars, but cash dictates otherwise, are there some quality alloy bars that have to "wing/oval" shape?? weight isn't the concern here, comfort is, I test rode a Cervelo R a while back and the bar feel on that bike was awesome (can't remember what it had), would love to find something similar to that for my Synapse that won't snap if I lay into it with my 205lb body and torque the crap out of it, currently have the stock C'dale C2 alloy....

try bontrager Aero aluminum bars. I have them and if your looking for aluminum with flat tops they are fine. About $90.
I have then mounted on the bmc. Check the pics.

I haven't seen too many alloy bars that are as dramatically sculpted as their carbon counterparts, but the 3T Aeronova Pro is one that's seen a lot of shaping.

I had never been interested in carbon bars....but after riding the S-works Aerofly's that came with my used Venge....I love 'em. They don't make a dime's difference as far as actually riding....but they're just 'cool' and nice to look at! I would never have paid the $300 price for 'em...but I'm glad to have them.

I go by the torque spec of the handlebars, not the stem's specification.

I go by whatever is enough to keep them in place. After buying a torque wrench, I found that most of my fasteners were pretty well under the recommended max torque. IOW, buying a torque wrench pretty much demonstrated that I didn't need a torque wrench.

I was looking into buying a torque wrench myself. Seems like all the bolts have a number next to it for torque. I just been winging it hoping I'm close to spec. My biggest fear is that I ruin my stem, steerer tube or seatpost.

If you're ham-fisted, get one. If not, don't worry about it.
