hmmm... I learned that the ride was not nearly as bad as I expected with just 2k of elevation gain. I also learned that having two bottles would be helpful, but not crucial.

nope don't have the spoke tool, but as you can see i was able to bring the nipple out of the rim and tighten it a little by hand. I already rode about 10 mi the other day on it after picking it up....

there is some sort of metal cap that screws around the spoke just on the inside part of the rim, as if to keep the spoke locked in. that is missing and I believe this allows the end of the spoke...

I took my bike to the lbs the other day for some truing and it looks like they forgot to lock down one of the spokes so it just rattles around in the wheel without that cap to lock it...
