New Bike gear ratio question

I'm upgrading from my old (80s) 12 speed.

The bike I'm looking at has a 11-25 sprocket and I can choose either a 46x36 double, a compact (50x36) or a standard double (53x39).

I'm not sure...

strange shimano exage shifters

I was wondering where I could find some more info on these levers. Year etc. They're exage and clamp onto the drop handlebars about 3 inches from the stem. They're black and have two projections...

My levers are Shimano Exage motion.
Is ebay the only place to find these? There are a bunch of aero hoods on ebikestop and othere sites but I'm not sure what will fit correctly.
