On a side note. I lived in Detroit for a number of years, and you need a MTB to ride in that urban waist land. The roads are so jacked that a road bike would fold on the inner city streets.

$175 is not all that bad to have a nice paint job and one that will hold up and look better then Dupli-Colo. Like darksiderising said you may be able to get adiscount as well.

Some may not want the weight on there back of a messenger bag. Plus keeping your weight low helps with center of gravity, better for balance, etc. I can also hold a lot more stuff in my panniers...
