It's rare if cars don't move into the other lane now when they approach me since I got the Dinotte 400R. The five flash strobe is very effective for getting attention. The light is bolted onto my...

After I had a vertebrae fusion in my neck, I knew that it wouldn't be easy to keep riding a DF. My doc confirmed that, when I told him I didn't ride a bike like the rest of the USA -- once a month...

Just installed my new 400R and it saved my life at least once on the very first daylight ride. A teen driver was hot about something and wasn't paying attention so he almost rear-ended my recumbent...

My 1990 Cannondale ST-1000 came with Suntour Command shifters. They were mounted above the brakes and the housing was under the tape -- just about where your knuckles bent around the bar, so you...

Thanks, Jeff, for your comments. I used the Shimano cog designations in my descriptions of the problems and they number the cogs smallest = 1, largest = 9 for a 9-speed cassette (from their...

Thanks for all of your insights. It is possible that the hanger is bent; I had to bail or hit a noiseless hybrid car that I didn't see or hear and the bike landed on the right side. I have a new...

Don't rule out your body; get a full physical. In 2005, I was getting beat by my usual ride and finally went to the doc. My red cells were at max for humans (think Peru or Tibet -- but I live in...

Shimano bar ends vs. Deore XT SGS -- can they work together?

I purchased a recumbent touring bicycle with factory installed Shimano bar ends (SL-BS77 9-spd) and Deore XT (RD-M771 SGS). After a recent overhaul, I noticed that the system skips my #8 cog and...

There is an adjustment knob on top of the fork. You need to turn it and loosen up the tension on the internal spring. It may take a lot of turns to get things where it actually absorbs shocks.

I understand your reluctance to continue with the recumbent for your commute especially with the big hill. I was forced to switch to a recumbent -- a Grasshopper Fx, a cousin of the SpeedMachine --...

Get a sports doctor!

I was on a tour in the Rockies in Alberta, Canada, in 1985 -- the coldest August ever recorded (it snowed in the higher elevations, we had hail @ 37 deg F.). I ended up with bad tendinitis on the...

1990 Cannondale ST 1000 value?

Due to medical reasons, I have to switch to a recumbent. My friend is considering my 1990 Cannondale ST 1000. It's wheels have been upgraded to 36-hole, 700C rims with Phil Wood hubs and the crank...

Kucharik has been around for quite a while (http://www.kucharik.com) and still offers real chamois on most of their shorts. I had some wool ones long ago and they were great. My last purchased set...

I've used both neatsfoot oil and Proofhide to soften my Brooks B17's and the Proofhide was better. Yes, it's a few pennies more than neatsfoot oil, but the Brits have been dressing leather for 500...

I've been riding for about 40 years, primarily for recreation and bicycle touring. I've been on 9 tours in various parts of the planet -- it's the only way to travel!

I recently had to switch to...
