It can work but is a PITA to get tire over it, I for some reason have had good luck with specialized 1.5" tubes on my commuter, I'm sure they don't actually make them but I'm not sure who does.

I like the long hoods, I pretty much live in them, and they're really nice in the winter when wearing thick gloves gives you plenty of room. I just wish they angled up more.
