But you are correct that a lightly used mavic wheel set is an often-overlooked path to 11sp compatibility.

I'd run those rs10's awhile longer if they aren't giving you trouble. A wider rim might feel a touch better...but you'd need to spend a bit more to achieve that weight and feel a difference...

I know that one benefit of the 5701 (or is it 5701-A?) is that it's rated to 30t. I think 6700 or 7900 are only 28t. I don't know if that would change...

You are on the right track. But rather than 'reach' - it's the cable pull ratio that was slightly changed (new super SLR). I'm running 5800 calipers with 5700 levers and would recommend that combo....
