As a rower let me comment on that last question - rowing will NOT make your upper body too big to bike... rowing is 85% legs to begin with, if you look at Olypmic rowers they have very similar builds...

Spinning too much?

I generally ride 25-40 miles at a time on rolling hills averaging about 18mph... when I first starting back into biking I found the tops of my knees were sore so I started working hard at spinning...

I have that problem - and have found it occurs...

I have that problem - and have found it occurs early in the season when I have not gotten many miles in - and/or if I push too hard a gear. Keeping my cadence above 85 or so seems to take care of...
