Just curious why you want disc brakes? I have them on my travel bike and really do not like them. Added weight and maintenance for really no gain. My rim brakes have always stopped me just fine.

I have a Thompson seat post, pretty sure it's Al. There is a line on it that says "Max." I assume that I should not cut above this line? It still seems like a lot of dead weight to me.
