50/19 is almost exactly the same gear inches as 42/16, the difference is less than .2" (1/5"). lets ignore the slight difference for the sake of my question.

I need some crank arms. Is it really that important to have 165mm vs 170mm arms? On Sheldon Brown's they hype 165mm for fixed riding. However, I can get some 170mm arms for much cheaper at a LBS....
