If you have the option to race Masters 35+ 4/5 I would go that route. If not cat 5 would be the most sensible choice. 35+ open is a brutal race.

I actually find I can hear better with my earbud in 1 ear. It blocks the wind sound some what and I can hear the traffic better. Of course you can't have it blaring loud just loud enough to hear.

Used both tires. I have had about quite a few flats with the Michelins and I try to avoid stuff. So far in 2 sets of Gatorskins I have had 1 flat and the performance tube was to blame not the tire....

Thats a pretty decent deal as long as the bottom brackets are the same. I think the Ritchey is octalink??? The changes you will have to do are probably lower your front derailleur a bit and shorten...
