Don't know about prep for you but I have ridden some in the ozarks on single track. Lots of thorns and posion Ivy. Would defenalty ride the crap out of that trail if you have the time before hand....

for a fs i would say around 1500 dollars
for a hardtail around 800-900 dollars
for downhill i have no idea never looked into...
