I know for endurance runners it decreases it by 1/2. Now you can counter it by doing sprints and strength training. When it comes down to it aerobic equals less anaerobic equals more.

I wouldn't leave out the mental part of the game. Look at some of the great atheletes through out history you have to be mentally tough and sometimes that means going above anaerobic threshold...

but why don't tour riders use tt bikes on non tt stages? I know you couldn't use aero bars because of handeling issues but why not put sandard bars on a tt bike?
