My blood pressure hasn't dropped much (must just be genetics) though my resting heart rate has dropped from mid 70s to 48-52 ish....

Absolutely agree. Got a PowerTap G3 wheel in mid-June and 1500 miles later I've learned a bunch about how hard I really work. Not a cheap investment but for a numbers geek a powermeter is great!

1000 miles isn't much for a chain OR cassette. Before you invest in new parts add a chain gauge to your toolbox. You might just need to have the drive train adjusted. Do you have a LBS you trust?
