No lactic acid build up from cycling. I'll run out of oxygen long before that happens. If I had 2 hearts and 4 lungs I'd be invincible :) The legs can go all day and most of the next.

I typically...

I had likely already gained everything I could from the intervals by doing basically the same rides and work patterns repeatedly for a long time. This past Sunday I did 50 steady state miles,...

That's part of what I'm trying to flush out. The Coggan chart seems to indicate there is a definite cutoff at the top two zones where there would be very little or no aerobic benefit. That point also...

Thanks for the suggestion. The reviews for Base Building sound like it's short on training plans and long on explanation, which is exactly what I want, may get this one. The forum gives me different...

Yes, that's my idea of a fun solo ride. Either riding through my subdivision as fast as possible and then recovering for a 1-2 minutes when I blow, or sprint sessions followed by hill repeats on a...

Yeah, the the 3+ hr ride pretty much wipes out the bulk of my available time for the week -- maybe once or twice a month, but nothing consistent. I'd end up doing no exercise at all for 3 days a week...

Mostly I'd just like to better understand how it works. After that, if I can learn something that would allow me to get more aerobic conditioning with the limited time I have for rides, it's a bonus....

Of course I know, following basically the same routes of known length over a period of years, noting when I depart and when I arrive. You might find this hard to believe, but there was a time long,...

No HR monitor, no computer, just me and the bike. Yes, the long rides are not terribly uncomfortable during the ride, I'd say anywhere from 2-4 on the above chart. The main difference is that at the...

This is part that is confusing to me. I've read many training plans that include long steady efforts, and short intense intervals. But do the shorter interval rides have any benefit at all for long...

So there is no aerobic training benefit from fast and short rides? Say you ride for 3 hours, but stop and rest for 5-10 minutes every 45 minutes, does that eliminate any aerobic gains?

Pure Aerobic Trainng

What's the best way to increase aerobic capacity. I don't need more speed, have never experienced lactic acid buildup in my legs and have never had soreness from a ride, but a ride of 30+ miles at...
