You are being a bit disingenuous in your weight comparisons. In this day and age, not too many people are going to be carrying around 50 to 60 lbs in a traditional 4 pannier setup. 30 to 40 lbs...

About 3000 feet. If someone hadn’t built a reservoir over the old railroad, I could have added another 30 to 35 miles of coasting to the ride and about another 3000 feet of drop.
